How to Make Urdu and Arabic Quote Videos That Render RTL Correctly
If you have ever pasted an Urdu couplet into an English video editor, you already know the failure mode: letters detach, dots float, the line starts on the wrong side, and the “quote” becomes unreadable in the first two seconds of a Short.
That is not a “you need a better font” problem only. It is a language + direction + layout problem. QuotVid treats Urdu, Arabic, and Persian as first-class RTL languages — not as English templates with a fancy typeface dropped on top.
This guide is the production checklist we give multilingual creators before they post to YouTube Shorts or Pinterest.

Why English tools fail on RTL quotes
Latin quote templates assume:
- Left-to-right line start
- Spaces as word boundaries the way English uses them
- Punctuation on the right
- Fonts that do not contain Nastaliq or Naskh shaping
Urdu poetry especially needs correct joining. A font that “has Arabic characters” can still break Nastaliq if the shaper and direction are wrong. Viewers swipe away faster on RTL pages because unreadable text feels like spam.
Step 1 — Set language before you write or generate
In AI Persona or Custom Studio, select Urdu, Arabic, or Persian first. Then write or generate.
Do not:
- Generate in English and paste RTL later
- Mix a full English sentence and a couplet in the same frame unless you are doing it on purpose
- Use a “poetry” layout that is only enabled for the matching language (Urdu poetry templates are language-gated for a reason)
Direction, alignment, and font choice all hang off this one setting.
Step 2 — Write for the phone, not the book
A couplet that looks beautiful in a printed diwan can fail on 1080×1920.
Rules that work in practice:
- One idea per screen line (two lines max on screen at once)
- Shorter lines than you would use on Instagram carousels — Shorts UI eats the bottom
- Avoid tiny diacritics-only differences as the “hook”; the first readable phrase must land in 1 second
- Keep the quote block in the center 80% of the frame
Step 3 — Contrast beats decoration
RTL scripts are denser. Busy cinematic B-roll behind a couplet is how you get “I can’t read it.”
Use:
- Darker or blurred backgrounds
- Strong text shadow if the clip has highlights
- Brand colors that still pass contrast on a bright clip
If you watermark, put the logo in a corner that does not collide with the last letter of the line. RTL last-letter position is the opposite of English — a bottom-right logo that was “safe” in English may sit on the text.
Step 4 — Platform notes (YouTube vs Pinterest)
YouTube Shorts
Titles can be in the same language as the video. Mix of English SEO + native title is common (example: niche keyword in English, couplet language in the body). Retention still depends on readable on-screen text, not the title.
Pinterest
Descriptions should include the search language of your audience. If people search in Urdu, write Urdu. If they search in English for “Urdu poetry video,” include both. Pin to a board named clearly (not “board 3”).
Same MP4. Different metadata.
Step 5 — Poetry vs generic motivation
Urdu poetry layouts exist because couplets have a visual rhythm English one-liners do not. If you are posting ghazal lines, use the poetry path. If you are posting modern motivation in Arabic, a standard RTL quote template is cleaner than forcing a poetry frame.
Do not run 20 categories on one RTL persona. Pick poetry or motivation or faith and hold it for 30 days so the algorithm (and your audience) can learn the page.
Quality control before you hit post
Watch the preview on a phone width, not a desktop window.
Ask:
- Does the first line start on the correct side?
- Are letters joined?
- Can I read it at 50% brightness (night mode)?
- Does any UI overlay (YouTube subscribe, Pinterest save) cover the last line?
If Custom Studio’s live phone mockup looks wrong, fix it there. Generating “to see” wastes quota and still trains you to ignore the preview.
FAQ
Can I post English and Urdu on the same channel?
You can, but growth is slower. Two personas / two channels is cleaner.
Why does my text look like boxes?
Language was probably still English. Set language, then regenerate.
Is RTL only Urdu and Arabic?
Persian (Farsi) is included in the same direction group. Other languages stay LTR.
If your page is RTL, treat language selection as part of the brand kit — equal to logo and color. Get that wrong and no amount of posting cadence will save the content.

Line-breaking without killing the couplet
Urdu and Persian poetry often wants a pause in the middle of a line. On a phone, that pause should be a new line, not a smaller font.
Good:
- Line 1: first misra (complete)
- Line 2: second misra (complete)
- Hold both on screen at the end for 2 seconds
Bad:
- One long ribbon of text that crawls
- Three stacked fragments that split a single word across lines
- English quotation marks wrapping RTL in a way that flips the start edge
If you are not sure, generate a test in Custom Studio and screenshot the phone mockup. If you cannot read your own test at 40% size, neither can the feed.
Hashtags and titles in mixed script
A common pattern that works:
- On-screen: 100% native RTL
- YouTube title: native + one English niche word if you want search from bilingual users
- Pinterest description: native search phrases first, English second
Do not fill the on-screen quote with hashtags. Hashtags belong in metadata. On-screen hashtags look like spam in every language; in RTL they also wreck alignment.
Fonts: what “native” means
You want a font that:
- Shapes Arabic script correctly (joining, marks)
- Has been tested at 1080×1920, not only in Word
- Matches the page (classical poetry vs modern sans)
QuotVid selects fonts from the language pack when language is set. Fighting that by pasting a Latin-only “Arabic-looking” display font is how you get hollow letters.
Moderation and respect
Quote pages in faith and poetry niches get reported when they look like mockery or stolen verses with no context. Keep:
- No deceptive “celebrity said this” if they did not
- Care with religious lines — accuracy matters more than aesthetics
- Original or clearly public-domain text when in doubt
RTL done correctly still fails if the content is dishonest. The technical bar and the editorial bar are both required.
A 7-day RTL launch plan
- Language + template + dark background
- Five test renders, none posted, until joining looks right
- Connect YouTube or Pinterest
- Post daily for a week without changing the kit
- Only then consider a second persona for a second language
Do not launch English and Urdu in the same week on the same channel unless you already have an audience that expects both.
